The B.Sc. Zoology Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP 2024) under the University of Calicut is designed to offer an in-depth and research-oriented education in animal biology through a structured combination of theory, practical work, field studies, internships, and honours-level research. The programme is organized across eight semesters and includes major Zoology courses throughout all semesters, along with multidisciplinary courses in the first two semesters and minor courses—typically in Botany and Chemistry—during the first three semesters to build a strong interdisciplinary foundation. Students also undertake skill enhancement courses, ability enhancement courses, value-added modules, and an optional honours research project in the fourth year. Evaluation is carried out through a combination of external University examinations and continuous internal assessment based on tests, assignments, seminars, attendance, and practical performance. The programme equips learners with advanced knowledge of animal structure, function, evolution, ecology, molecular biology, and applied zoological sciences, as well as strong laboratory, analytical, and research skills, preparing them for higher studies, competitive examinations, research careers, teaching, and professional opportunities in life sciences, biotechnology, wildlife conservation, and environmental management.
