B.Sc. Botany (Honours)

B.Sc. Botany FYUGP

The BSc Botany FYUGP is a four-year undergraduate programme, framed under the NEP-2020, with flexible exits after 1, 2, 3, or 4 years, leading respectively to a certificate, diploma, regular undergraduate degree, or undergraduate honours degree with Research in Botany. Botany is offered as the major discipline, and students can opt for different pathways such as single major Botany, Botany with a minor (for example, in Zoology, Chemistry or Environmental Science), or double‑major combinations during the first three years, depending on the university’s scheme. The curriculum gradually builds from fundamentals of plant diversity, anatomy, physiology, taxonomy, ecology, genetics and evolution in the early semesters to advanced areas like plant biotechnology, molecular biology, genomics, conservation biology and applied plant sciences at the honours level. Each core theory paper is supported by practicals, and there are compulsory field visits, herbarium work, skill enhancement, multidisciplinary courses, as well as internships. In the fourth year, honours/research tracks include a substantial project or dissertation that trains students in basic research methods. Evaluation is through continuous internal assessment plus end‑semester exams, and the stated outcomes include strong conceptual grounding in plant science, research aptitude, environmental and conservation awareness, and preparation for higher studies or plant‑related careers such as teaching, research, horticulture, biotechnology and environmental management.
